Just like most tools in your toolbox, Reflex requires a little consideration to work at its peak.
Officers should observe the following common-sense precautions:
All aerosol containers can burst if exposed to prolonged extreme heat above 130° Canisters should be stored in a cool, dry place at comfortable room temperatures.
Take care to minimize denting or rough use storage (i.e. do not throw it in the trunk of your vehicle or detective holster (desk drawer) rolling around for months)
If carried on a duty belt and NOT used for a period of thirty days, ensure the nozzle is clear of any debris.
Be totally familiar with the type of canister, its safety, and the spray pattern of the unit you carry.
Carrying capability or holster type MUST be considered for proper deployment.
Practice deploying your canister to the ready position with movement and drawing techniques to and from the holster.
Practice weapon transition drills with your canister, impact weapon, and sidearm.
Remember that your canister can be used AGAINST YOU if taken away! PROTECT YOUR SPRAY!
